Specifically, your analysis paper will address two key points:

  1. What important concepts does the author introduce? Briefly summarize the main ideas of the theory and then provide a clear thesis statement that outlines what you will analyze and the conclusion you will make.
  2. Using examples from narratives read in EAP101A and anecdotal examples, analyze the effectiveness or usefulness of the theory for explaining language learner behavior and future performance. 

 

Assignment Structure:

  • Introduction:
    • a clear summary of the key ideas of the theory.
    • a thesis statement stating the points for analysis.
  • Body: Write your analysis using two well-developed body paragraphs. Remember that each body paragraph needs its own topic sentence and must connect to the thesis.
  • Conclusion: Restate your claim (the result of your analysis). End with a general statement regarding the broader implications of your analysis.

 

Writing Strategy:

Start with some pre-writing activities to help you think through the ideas in the text and how you will analyze them. Use outlining or mapping to connect and organize your ideas.

 

Formatting:
